Dispute resolution on Oath is professional, fair, and public.
Dispute resolution is our process of resolving any arguments or reports that arise from an oath. We take this process seriously, fighting for justice to make things right.
Here’s an overview of the process:
- User reports oath and pays moderation fee
- Moderators collect and review evidence
- Moderators provide resolution based on protocol, fee refunded to winner
- Users comply with resolution
- Non-compliant users are banned from platform and forwarded to pertinent authorities
Reporting an oath
Every oath has actions you can take on it. These actions are accessible with the 3-dot “More” button in the top right of the header.
Once you’re in the actions modal, you can click report.
And then you can begin to write up your claim, as well as submit any photo evidence you have. At this point, the other party will also be prompted to submit their side of the story with any photo evidence.
Both users pay a small moderation fee totaling 5% of the monetary value. The winner of the moderation resolution will be fully refunded after resolution.
Reviewing Evidence and Resolution
Oath moderators are neutral, anonymous, and paid per case with no outcome influencing reward. They adhere to different protocols based on item type. These protocols are designed to be fair to both users, and meant to counteract common scams/loopholes found on other platforms.
Using these protocols, our moderators determine exactly what evidence must be submitted by users. Users are given 14 calendar days to submit the necessary evidence. Afterwards, moderators make a decision within 5 calendar days, using the protocols to determine the proper resolution action.
Compliance
After the resolution is made, users are given 7 calendar days to settle and return everything. The winner of the resolution is refunded their moderation fee. And in the case of a “tie”, both users split the moderation fee. The disputed transaction will be marked as resolved and will show up on the respective user’s profiles, indicating whether they won or lost the dispute.
No-compliance consequences
If you used Oath without a payment protection service, you will not be refunded until the users comply. This is why we strongly recommend using Oath in conjunction with a payment protection service. Nevertheless, users are permanently banned from the Oath platform until they comply with the resolutions (see How Oath keeps you safe).
After 2 notifications and 14 calendar days of no-response or non-compliance, we will generate a summary of the transaction fraud, identity, and proof, then forward the material to pertinent authorities and linked platforms. In the United States, there is no minimum dollar amount required for federal wire fraud. We combine the relevant information to help our users get the justice they deserve.
